Be Yourself: My guide to showing up

Be Yourself: How are you showing up?

February 17, 20253 min read

Isn’t it funny how sometimes things come together?

Have you ever had it where you have been thinking about something then, you see a post on social media or find your listening to something that is talking about that exact same thing?

This has happened to me recently.

I have been thinking a lot about how I show up. In lots of different ways - for myself, for my family and friends and for my businesses.

Every morning I go for a walk and I listen to a podcast. This morning I had been sent a podcast episode from my mentor.

Guess what it was about??

Yep, you guessed it - showing up!!

This episode was primarily about showing up in business but, many of the points were so relevant to all areas of our lives.

I know for a fact that I quite often keep myself to myself for fear of being judged. Not so much that people won’t like me, but, more that they will find what I have to say as really boring. I know where this stems from and is something that I am working on.

I don’t always show up because there are some days when I don’t feel like I have it all together, that I must wait for everything to be perfect, or at least better, before I show up.

I used to not show up for myself because I had convinced myself that I didn’t have time - that is something that I have consciously changed. Of course I had the time, I was just choosing to spend it doing other things. Quite often, those things weren’t serving me so well, either!

And so, with all of these in mind, my question to you is this:

How are you showing up today?

Are you letting the potential thoughts and judgements of others stopping you from showing up as yourself?

Are you telling yourself that you need to wait for certain things to be in place before you will feel comfortable enough in showing up?

Are you showing up for everyone else but not prioritising yourself? Convincing yourself that you don’t have time?

Is there something else that’s stopping you?

If you are reading this, I believe it’s because you needed to see this today. In the same way that I needed to hear that podcast this morning.

Take this as your reminder that the world needs you, just as you are and whatever your situation.

Don’t let other people or things stop you from getting out there and sharing your amazing uniqueness with the world.

Most importantly, don’t spend so much time showing up for other people that you neglect yourself.

Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup - self care is essential not selfish.

5 Practical Tips to Help You Show Up:

  1. Set an Intention Every Day
Before starting your day, take a moment to set an intention about how you want to show up for yourself.

This could be as simple as “I will take time to rest today” or “I will speak kindly to myself.”

  2. Schedule Time for Yourself
Block out time in your calendar just for you, whether it’s for self-care, reflection, or doing something you enjoy.

Treat it as non-negotiable, like any other commitment.

  3. Embrace Imperfection
Remind yourself that you don’t have to be perfect to show up.

Authenticity resonates far more than perfection, so embrace showing up as you are, flaws and all.

  4. Focus on Consistency, Not Intensity
Small actions taken consistently matter more than grand gestures done sporadically.

Show up regularly, even if it’s in a small way, rather than waiting for the perfect moment.

  5. Challenge Negative Self-Talk
When self-doubt creeps in or you feel judged, challenge that inner voice.

Ask yourself, “What if I am enough just as I am?” or “What would I say to a friend in this situation?”

Remember, it all starts with taking that first step.

What will you do today?
